Creative Pottery Works
Shandi and Casey McConnell design their wonderful work in their backyard clay studio in Wilmington, North Carolina. While earning a BFA in Sculpture at The University of Nebraska, Shandi met Casey who was persuing a BS in Natural Resources. What better way to meld the two disparate specialties than pottery using images from nature – more specifically the wonders of the East Coast. In 1999 they moved to North Carolina and started Creative Works. While they do collaborate on most of their work, they do have their separate jobs. Shandi designs, throws, slab builds and glazes while Casey extrudes, slab builds and keeps the studio running. Their pottery is made with porcelain and most of the glazes are made in-house using their own recipes Currently their work is focused on slab built pieces which are decorated by stamps made from Shandi’s sketches. Shandi sums up their success like this: “We have been lucky to see a lot of our incredible world. When we are not trip we find time to brew some beer, play in the water and spend time with our families.”
At The Cottage we have experienced great success with the magnet pen holder/bud vase. With its two very strong magnets, this nifty little item is perfect on the fridge and is a great memento of your Jekyll Island stay as well as the perfect gift for co-workers, the bridge group, or as a stocking stuffer. With a wide variety of colors and designs to pick from, you can easily purchase one for everyone on your list while never duplicating the look. A great addition is one of the beautiful little flowers…these also add a whimsical touch to a plant or a bouquet of real flowers.
“Fun, functional, and of course, creative."
