Doug Jones Island Pottery
Doug Jones has been handcrafting coastal-themed stoneware pottery for over 46 years. In his studio on Amelia Island, FL, wheel-thrown, hand-built and sculpted vases, bowls and platters come out of the fire as sea turtles, fish and manatees in a variety of beautiful glazes that will enhance any decor.
As an island potter, Doug transforms clay into items of beauty using items that are found on and around the coastal area he calls home. Doug says that living on Amelia Island, the highlight of his morning is sitting on the back porch with his wife Pat, enjoying the serenity their island home, listening to the surf in the distance while sipping fresh ground Hawaiian KONA coffee from a mug that was made over 35 years ago by his friend and mentor, master potter Lee Shank.
“I want you to be able to experience that same feeling of satisfaction with one of my handcrafted ceramic items. Many of my pieces are destined to become heirlooms and with minimal care they will give lasting pleasure and enjoyment for generations.”
Doug has been a friend for over twenty years and am proud to represent his work on Jekyll Island. Amelia Island is just a short fifty or so miles south of Jekyll and has the same wonderful beaches so popular with tourists and nesting sea turtles alike! Doug’s popular dip bowls, complete with a wooden spreader and delicious shrimp dip recipe and decorated with turtles, crabs, shells and starfish will make a wonderful gift for you or your family and friends.
Doug Jones:
“My goal is for you to enjoy my work as much as I do in making it...”
